If you read right through Romans Chapter 12, it might take you all of 45 seconds, maybe a minute at most. You could literally read it, and say you've read every word. But did you see all those doctrinal instructions providing all that proactive information and benefit?
"Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good." - Romans 12:9 - These two instructions alone, can keep you busy for a while as there is plenty that is evil in this "present evil world" to abhor, and much to cleave to which is good, (and stay cleaved to).
Those are but two instructions that if one thinks about and discerns, how much evil do you come across on the television? On the job? In the marketplace of ideas? On the street? In the mall? At the store? At school? We've got instructions regarding that. Romans 12:9 is but one thing, not to mention 1 Timothy 2:4, and such others as well.
That's but one verse with two instructions in Romans Chapter 12. Want to go back and re-read the Chapter instead of finishing it in that 45 second quick-read?
Some verses contain two instructions, some verses contain three. All of them excellent for the Body of Christ.
One point to make beforehand in verses 4 through 7, is that these "gifts" from verse 6 are not active today. These were concerning the early church which you also find mentioned in 1 Corinthians Chapter 12, and Ephesians Chapter 4. These gifts also have nothing to do with Israel in Acts Chapter 2. That's a completely different church for a completely different program.
Let's not go Pentecostal in learning how to be proactive. Enjoy the Chapter, study the verses, and gain the understanding of the Bible rightly divided.
