Continuing in Sin Vs. Walking Worthy

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?" - Romans 6:1

This is going back a few verses to Romans 5:20, where it's stated "Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:"

"Sin abounded, and now grace much more abounds, does that mean we shall continue in sin?" Is the question. The answer of course is "God forbid" found in Romans 6:2.

What's going to be a motive now? Not the law...we see from Romans 5:20 that when the law entered, the offence abounds...it just clarifies sin....it does not grant justification to the one who sinned (and all have sinned as Paul states from Romans 3).

God's grace and the Judgment Seat of Christ (1 Corinthians 3:10-15). Rewards for service, not for salvation. "According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire."

What then becomes the "threat" for bad service? A curse from God? A lightning bolt from the heavens? Bad crops? No rain? Leporacy? None of these things. In the dispensation of the Grace of God, there is no earthly threat to the believer concerning his service. However, "Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences." - 2 Corinthians 5:11

If you desire to go before the Lord as a believer, and present no works to him, or works that are not of a Pauline sort on the day that it shall be revealed by fire, only to have the fire try your work of what sort it is....and for everything you did (or didn't do) go up in smoke? That's enough for me to keep the focus on Paul as the pattern, Christ as my head, and keep the bible rightly divided for the rest of my life. If the rain doesn't come, and the leporacy and bad crops come about....these truths still stand, and continuing in sin is NOT an option....as mentioned back in Romans 6:1.

"Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." - Titus 2:14. We're to be identified as people zealous of good works, not continuing in sin. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:10

We should walk in them.....we should. So continue NOT in sin, and instead find yourself zealous. Zealous of good works. Works according to Pauline doctrine and the bible rightly divided.
